Modify the Windows 7 Logon Screen Background

When we entering to the Windows Operating System we choose user account from Logon Screen. Normally we see blue color common background on the Log on screen. But do you know we can use any picture as log on screen. If you're chose a picture for Log on screen, you can see it on welcome screen, log out screen and shutdown screen. To do this we have to edit the windows registry.

Editing the Registry

Be careful before edit the registry. Because it has directly affects to Windows operating system. If you're done any wrong thing in the registry, the windows operating system may be inactivate. So then follow these steps properly step by step. To enter the registry go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run. Afterwards opening the Run dialogue box type regedit and click OK or press enter button on the keyboard. Then Registry Editor window will appear on your screen. In this window you can see lot of folders under the Computer. Now follow these steps correctly. Primo loco click on arrow mark front of the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

Next click arrow mark of the Software. Now click again arrow mark of the Microsoft under the Software. And also click on arrow mark front of the Windows. Now click again the arrow mark of the Current Version and again click on the arrow mark of the Authentication and also click arrow mark of the LogonUI. After the those steps you can see the Background under the LogonUI. Now select the Background. Afterwards the click on Background you can see the Default value at the right side of the Registry Editor window. Now create a new value. To create a new value Right click and select DWORD(32 bit) Value. Now rename it as OEM Background. Next double click on OEM Background and you will appear the Edit DWORD Value box. Now put 1 in the value box and click OK.

Create a Folder to put Picture

We have to create a special folder to put a picture for dispaly Logon screen.
So go to Computer > C: or partition that you have installed Windows. Next open the Windows > System 32 > oobe. In the oobe folder create a new folder and name it as Info. Open the Info folder and create a new folder in it. Rename it as Backgrounds.

Choosing a picture for background

You must have to choose a .jpg file formatted picture for logon screen. First copy the Jpeg image and paste it into Backgrounds folder that you have created in Info folder. Now rename the image as backgroundDefault. After the renamed you will see the image with it's extension (.jpg). Now you're done all works. So you can see that picture on logon screen, logout screen, welcome screen and also shutdown screen.

To change picture, delete current image and paste another image. So rename it as backgroundDefault.
If you want to set the default windows 7 background, change the OEM Value as 0 or delete the Info folder from oobe folder.
